Dedicated public servant, active in his community and church, and husband and father are all roles Kevin Turner holds. Now Kevin would like to have your support for the Republican Candidacy for Dearborn County Council District 3 in 2018. A lifelong resident of Dearborn County and graduate of South Dearborn High School (where he was student body president), Kevin moved from Aurora to Dillsboro in 2013. Currently employed by Greendale Police Department and assigned as a Sergeant and Investigator, Kevin has been in law enforcement for over 19 years. Additionally, either due to a sense of duty to his community or a love of sirens, Kevin has served as firefighter (rising to the rank of Safety Officer and Chief Investigator, the third in command) at Aurora Fire Department for fifteen years before moving to Dillsboro. He now serves as a Lieutenant at Dillsboro Fire Department, serves as a law enforcement representative to the Dearborn County Local Emergency Planning Committee, and has previously volunteered with Aurora EMS. During his public safety experience, Kevin has written numerous grants at the federal, state, and local level; worked with budgets on projects to obtain needed public safety equipment through both the department’s allotted budget and grant monies; and gathered experience working with all levels of government from mayors, clerk/ treasurers and council members to employees of nearly every agency operating in Dearborn County. Because of his knowledge of the workings of public safety, Kevin Turner highly supports a better retirement opportunity for county public safety officers and continued gaming revenue support to fire departments, EMS, and municipalities.
Kevin also volunteers as a coach to youth sports, even if he has to learn the rules as he goes (i.e. soccer, but not basketball. All good Hoosiers know the rules of basketball), and keep himself in shape at age 39 to keep up with his team members. As a former chairman, vice-chairman, and current elder at his church, he has worked with budgets, decisions on improvements, and salaries. Furthermore, he has volunteered with the Heritage Festival Committee for the past two years in Dillsboro. Working on both church council and with the Festival Committee has reinforced his belief that prudent fiscal management is paramount, and large scale facility projects should have the backing of the majority of citizens, not just the governing body.
Kevin Turner has been married to his wife Marisa (Selmeyer) Turner, a doctor of pharmacy with Express Scripts, for fourteen years. They have two children: Katelyn, age 9, and Molly, age 4.
Prior education, training, and awards include: Elected and Appointed Officials Workshop, Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board Instructor for General Topics and Physical Tactics, Honors Graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, attended Butler University from 1996 to 1998, attending University of Maryland University College (Major Fire Science, Minor Criminal Justice), 2007 Tom Cochran Excellence in Law Enforcement Award from the Dearborn/Ohio County Victim’s Advocate, and formerly employed by Aurora Utilities, Aurora Police (dispatcher and reserve officer), and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department as a jail officer.
