Education: I attended Huntington University where I graduated in 2002 with a double Major in Business Management and Economics

Other Public Office/Public Service/Business/Other Experience:  I currently serve on County Council At-Large, Dearborn County Solid Waste Board, Dearborn County Convention, Visitor’s & Tourism Board and am a Member of 1Dearborn

I also serve as the Treasurer for both Sen. Chip Perfect and the Dearborn County Republican Party, am a Precinct Committeeman and a 5-time poll worker.

Awards/Achievements:  My wife, Jessie, and I had the privilege of representing Dearborn County as the “Royal Couple” for the Children’s Advocacy Center Mardi Gras Ball in 2018.

Family:  Jessie and I have two beautiful girls – Allison (9) and Reagan (8).

 

Why are you the best candidate for the office you are seeking?

I believe I am the best candidate for Dearborn County Council for 3 key reasons:

  1. I have proven business leadership experience that shows a clear understanding of fiscally responsible decision making.
  2. I have a shared vision and ability to deliver the amenities our citizens value as priorities.
  3. I have the energy to go after solutions to our needs, and not just show up to a meeting to decide on the least-worst options that come before us, or second guess everyone without putting forth my own solutions.

True leadership isn’t just making decisions….it takes vision casting, gaining consensus, monitoring and adjusting.  It’s critical that we plan our work, and then work our plan!

 

What will be your top priorities if you are elected/re-elected?

Fiscal Responsibility

I want to help every tax payer keep more of our hard-earned dollars in our pockets – not in government coffers. Virtually nothing is less expensive today than it was just a few short years ago. As the cost of doing county business continues to rise, we have to monitor every expense for wasteful spending, and a focus on “needs vs. wants.” Over the last few years I’ve worked with our Commissioners and Council Members to address the rising costs of healthcare, perform an energy audit on county owned property, distribute ARPA funds for critical infrastructure investments and pursue competitive bids for the projects presented before Council.

Savings are out there, but they aren’t going to fall into our laps. We have to be an active Council who attacks rising costs, not one that just shows up to the occasional meeting to vote on the “least-worst” option. As a small-business owner/operator involved with 4 businesses in Dearborn County at the Executive level, I have a good understanding of reasonable business costs versus a bloated government contracts. We should only accept competitive bids that are in the best interest of our citizens.

Investment in Transportation & Infrastructure

Our roads are an essential asset to our community. The arrival of riverboat gaming to Dearborn County in the early 90’s brought about many great improvements, including a major investment in our roads – but it has been 25+ years. With over 500 miles of paved roads in the county, keeping up with a maintenance and re-pavement plan is crucial. We cannot continue to kick that level of infrastructure debt down the road. Our current Council is working hard to redirect funds towards more road improvements.

Reduce Dependency on Riverboat Gaming Revenue for Day-To-Day Operations

It’s no secret that gaming revenue in Dearborn County is on the decline. And while sports betting has brought more guests back through our casino doors, that corresponding revenue is disproportionately going to the State, not Dearborn County. Just like every citizen realizes how to live on their personal budget, our County needs to run our day-to-day budget anticipating the dwindling riverboat revenues. It wouldn’t be fiscally responsible to count on that revenue for day-to-day operations, any more than a citizen counting on a Christmas bonus to cover the mortgage. We made great strides last year in reducing how much of our budget is dependent on our Riverboat Savings, and we will continue to reduce that dependency.
