SECRETARY

Garrett Bascom

Garrett Bascom joined the Office of the Indiana Attorney General while still in his early 20s, and he immediately played an integral role helping Attorney General Curtis Hill pursue an agenda focused on protecting Hoosiers’ freedoms.

In his work, Garrett consistently promoted such priorities as safeguarding Second Amendment rights, defending the right to life for the unborn and fighting federal overreach that would infringe on Indiana’s sovereignty as a state.

Working now as a Dearborn-Ohio County deputy prosecutor, Garrett continues to devote himself to the causes of pursuing justice and upholding accountability under the rule of law.

Outside of his full-time work, Garrett has stayed active in Republican politics.

“The Republican Party came into existence as a force to defend human freedom against pro-slavery interests,” Garrett said. “I believe we must stay true to our roots by working hard every day to further the cause of individual liberty and American prosperity.”

Garrett grew up in Dearborn County and graduated from South Dearborn High School in 2013.

He went to Mount St. Joseph University where he obtained a degree in Communication and New Media Studies with a minor in Leadership Development. While in school, Garrett took leadership to heart and served in various capacities including terms as Student Government Treasurer and President, a Campus Ambassador and multiple University-wide committees. While at the University, Garrett had internships with the Mayor of Cincinnati and SC Ministry Foundation.

During his senior year at Mount St. Joseph, Garrett worked as an Intern in the Dearborn-Ohio Prosecutor’s Office where he decided he wanted to attend law school. After applying to Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of law, he earned a full tuition scholarship to the school.

Garrett attended law school at night and worked full-time during the day in Attorney General Curtis Hill’s administration in various capacities. He started as a Legislative Assistant and was then promoted to the Assistant Director of Operations before becoming Special Assistant to Chief Deputy Attorney General Aaron Negangard.

Garrett briefly left the Attorney General’s Office to serve as the Political Director for Curtis Hill for Indiana where he traveled the State on behalf of Curtis Hill before returning to the Office as Special Assistant to Attorney General Curtis Hill.

In 2020, Garrett and his wife Haley welcomed their twins Walker and Olivia into the world. He graduated from law school and passed the bar during the same year.

His family now lives in Dearborn County where he works as a Deputy Prosecutor and Special Projects Coordinator for Prosecutor Lynn Deddens in the Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor’s Office.

Garrett has attempted to demonstrate servant leadership throughout his early career. He is proud to demonstrate that young people can engage with politics with a conservative viewpoint. He hopes to serve as a model to get more young people involved in the party.
